Greening the Inner God-field: The Care and Feeding of Your GodSelf
–Rabbi Wayne Dosick |
Our world is a world of wonder and awesome beauty — the Holy Presence of the transcendent God, the God of creation, communal covenant, revelation, and redemption, is around us without end. Were we able to be continually conscious of this, we would be in an unending state of constant bliss. But, in truth, most of the time, we miss the wonder, we miss the Holy Presence, we miss the celebration. Why?
To see the wonders of the transcendent God, we must be able to see all of it through the eyes of the immanent God — the God Within, the God of deep personal, intimate, loving relationship.
When you open the channel between your GodSelf and God, between the “outer” and the “inner”, then God inundates you with your God-ness, the deepest, highest, and finest of your God-being. And then there is no difference between the “outer “ and the “inner.” There is Oneness.
In this class, we offer skills and techniques, prayers and poems, chants and meditations, as a guide to embracing and nourishing the very real God Within, for celebrating your GodSelf, and for finding your life's foremost purpose, clearest direction, richest meaning, and greatest joy in the greater, One God-Field.
Please bring your favorite copy of the Bible. |
Rabbi Wayne Dosick, Ph.D., is the spiritual guide of The Elijah Minyan, the author of eight books, including Living Judaism, Soul Judaism, and 20 Minute Kabbalah, and the host of the weekly Internet radio show, SpiritTalk Live!: Journeys Into Mind Heart and Soul on HealthyLife.net

Earth, Text and Soul: A Contemplative Approach to Torah
–Rabbi Leila Gal Berner |
Jacob leaves home, lays his head down on a pillow of stones, feels the earth beneath his body, awakes from a dream and declares, “Surely, God is in this place and I did not know it!” Twenty years later, he crosses a river, lays down upon the earth, dream-wrestles with a “man” (or an angel? or himself) and, upon waking, calls the place Peniel – the face of God. Moses wanders in the wilderness and sees a burning bush that is not consumed. From the bush, he hears a voice: Ehyeh asher Ehyeh – I am what I am, OR . . . I will be what I will be — the Holy One speaking from a thornbush. Once again – holiness emerges from the earth. There is much to contemplate in Torah’s stories.
We Jews are an intellectual people. For many of us, however, spirituality and Jewish meaning is found through a more contemplative approach. Reb Leila Gal Berner Gal has been developing a Jewish adaptation of a centuries-old contemplative Christian form of engagement with the Bible that she has named “kriat ha-kodesh" — “Reading the Holy.” This approach engages the heart, mind and soul through deep listening and meditation on Torah’s words in the context of one’s own life. Rabbi Berner will share this method of entering into Torah’s profound personal meaning as together we find our own personal story within Torah text and the texture of God’s magnificent earth.
Students in the ALEPH Smicha program may take this course for credit with approval of the instructor. |
Ordained at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 1989, Reb Leila Gal Berner more recently received semikha from Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi. The Art of Praise
–Rabbi Shefa Gold |
Perek Shirah is an ancient Jewish text that is a celebration of Praise for The Creator.
All of Creation has a voice in this celebration. The Heavens, the Earth and all the creatures large and small are quoted. Fruits, vegetables, all kinds of birds, clouds, rivers, fish, frogs, insects, lizards, snails and all the animals of the Wild join in with their song of Praise.
Together we will study Perek Shirah and be swept up into this holy chorus.
What can we learn from the Creatures that abound in our world?
How can we listen to the Song of Creation and let it instruct us in the Art of Praise?
We will attempt to unlock the secrets of Perek Shira through the practices of Chant, Silence, Imagination, Study, Movement and Stillness.

The Kabbalah of Food, Love, Abundance, Healing and Dreams
–Rabbi Leah Novick |
What does Jewish mystical tradition teach us about topics very close to our modern concerns?
Although the Zohar was transmitted at the end of the 13th century, and reflects it's medieval context, it can be surprisingly futuristic in its approach to human relationships and life on this planet.
In this class we will explore the ways in which the wisdom of our mystics can continue to expand and deepen our search for higher consciousness - while we are embodied !
Music, Movement and Meditation will be part of our daily journey. |
Rabbi Leah Novick is a West Coast spiritual teacher who has been studying Zohar for twenty two years. She enjoys sharing her insights and welcomes people of all backgrounds and levels of study. (i.e. Hebrew and Aramaic not required).
Reb Leah is known for her Kabbalah workshops on the Tree of Life and work with guided imagery. She is the author of "On the Wings of Shekhinah" Re-discovering Judaism's Divine Feminine (Quest Books 2008) and a Meditation C-D with Desert Wind. Leah is one of the original founders of Ruach Ha’Aretz and has pioneered the movement for Earth-centered Jewish practice. She lives on the California central coast; drawing inspiration for her travels and teaching from the ocean and the redwoods. |
Embodying Sh’ma
– Rabbi Diane Elliot |
How can we listen with all of our selves in a way that not only allows us to perceive, but also to co-create the field of Unity that undergirds, permeates, and enlivens the natural world? How is our very physicality, our materiality, G~d-filled? In this class we’ll delve experientially into the Sh’ma prayer, the ancient heart of Jewish liturgy, in each of the kabbalistic Four Worlds—through the body and movement; through feeling and chant; through language, text, and meaning; and through the breath and breadth of spirit. Bring a favorite siddur (prayer book) and Tanakh (Bible) and wear loose, comfortable clothing. All levels of spiritual adventurer welcome!

CLASS CANCELLED HalleluYAH! Jospel Singing Intensive
– Sharon Alexander |
Finally, by popular demand, here is your opportunity to take a weeklong intensive workshop in jospel singing. Not only will we learn songs that you can add to your community’s or choir’s repertoire – leading up to a performance on the last evening of Ruach; we will learn the special gospel techniques that make songs effective congregational energizers.
In addition, we will learn the secrets of praise and affirmation in the prayer service. Finally, we will examine the energetic recipe of the service (from praise to worship to glory) and how the joyful gospel-style fits in. And for the first time, I will have available my new Jospel Manual for Jewish Singers and Congregations. |

From Elohim to Teva:
The Jewish Creator's Evolution to Being One-with-Creation
–Rabbi David J. Cooper |
Biblical and Rabbinic views pose God as outside the universe and operating upon it. It also poses a universe that is complete and then serves as a stage for human history. But a subtle evolution in our God concept has been in the works for 3000 years, moving from monotheistic transcendent God to a "monist" God which is the divine nature of the universe Itself/Herself/Himself. Where are the hints of this evolution throughout our Jewish history and thinking? What are the implications for our covenantal responsibilities for this planet of which we are an organ?
|
David Jonathan Cooper is the congregational rabbi at Kehilla Community Synagogue in the Piedmont/Oakland/ Berkeley area. In addition to his pastoral responsibilities, Rabbi David teaches adult ed classes on Jewish history, philosophy, ethics, and practice from an iconoclastic and experiential approach. |
Stories From Before Time:
Paradise Lost and Paradise Found
–Ellen Kaufman Dosick |
Ancient mythologies - stories from before time - source our Beings, and foundation our interactions with God and our Earth. The Myths of Beginnings and Middles are incredibly powerful stories about the complicated relationships between Shechinah, Source, Humankind, and Earth. They are interwoven midrashim from a variety of Jewish and Middle Eastern sources. Each of these myths carries a woundedness that is now expressed in our very unbalanced and wounded relationship with Gaia, and with the Divine. Whenever there is a wound, there is a story that is unfinished. Each of these myths requires healing so that we, and our planet, may continue to evolve.
Come and immerse yourself in these epic tales that shape our world and our lives, and learn deep and powerful processes that change these stories and enable a New World of Oneness, of Paradise Found. As the sage teaches, “When we change the story, we change the world.” |
Ellen Kaufman Dosick, LCSW, has been a psychotherapist for over 30 years, and is the master practitioner and teacher of the spiritual psychotherapy, Soul Memory Discovery. With her husband, Rabbi Wayne Dosick, she has co-authored 20 Minute Kabbalah, and Empowering Your Indigo Child, and she channels a bi-monthly Internet publication, The Cosmic Times: Spiritual News You Can Use.

The Four Core Truths of the Ba’al Shem Tov:
Kabbalah In a Terrestrial Key
–Rabbi Burt Jacobson |
“If the Ba’al Shem were living today, he would be concerned about the future of our earth. God so loved the world that She gave herself to it and became the Earth. Therefore, we must love and care for the earth because She is an embodiment of the Divine.”
~Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi
Traditional Kabbalah was primarily concerned with the celestial realms beyond the earth. Israel Ba’al Shem Tov, founder of Hasidim, put the emphasis on the divinity of the physical world. In this class we will study the Ba’al Shem’s kabbalah. The Four Core Truths have to do with personal and collective liberation, with the integration of expanded states of consciousness into our ordinary activities, and with sanctifying existence on this plane. In this class we will learn about the Ba’al Shem’s life, his place in Jewish tradition, and his spiritual philosophy.
Rabbi Burt will employ niggun, visualization, and meditation along with classroom study and discussion. |
Rabbi Burt Jacobson founded Kehilla Community Synagogue in the East Bay in1984, a congregation that unites the prophetic call for justice with the neo-Hasidic spirituality of Jewish renewal. He has been a student of the teachings of the Ba’al Shem Tov for over thirty years, and is engaged in writing a book that will examine the life, personality and spiritual philosophy of the founder of Hasidism. |
At Play in the Field of Soul, Sound, and Song:
A four-day adventure with the Voice
–Judith-Kate Friedman |
How does the Living World sing to us? How does Creation call us to sing? What happens as we waken our voices in Devotion? How can the voice lead us to live in reciprocity with All that Is? In the beautiful Santa Cruz mountains amidst old growth redwoods, we’ll explore our voices, and the Voice of all around us. We’ll listen, tone, and attune to breath, welcome each other’s sacred gifts and sing freely as birds. For like birds, we are born to sing. Each day will include venturing out to witness structure, spontaneity, humor, boundaries, paradox, courage and grace in the Grand Design. We’ll return to tend creative sparks and create new musical pieces (song, melody, rhythm poem, body-soundscape, improvisations). Sharing our work, dancing and singing together on the holy ground of permission, our souls will be confirmed and will confirm us: out loud and in silence, in community and solitude, resonating, as all sound and vibration does, out and in, to the Infinite.

The Green Jew
–Rabbi Ori Har and Oz DiGennaro |
Like the love of God in spirit, and the sacredness of Shabbat in time, so can wilderness restore our wholeness in space. “And you will then know that I am the Infinite One who dwells deep within the earth” (Exodus 8:18).
To Green the Godfield we are called to be fully present to the natural world through silent hiking, breath meditations, Hitbodedut practice, text study, blessings, and joy making. We will follow the Four Worlds, Four Elements and Four Winds...
To participate you need to be able to hike three miles with some hill climbing, to sit comfortably on the ground and to tolerate exposure to the elements. |
